College Application Timeline

The college application timeline varies depending on specific deadlines set by each institution and the type of admission process. Here is a general timeline to guide you through the college application process:

Sophomore Year and Early Junior Year: 

Begin researching colleges and universities to identify ones that align with your academic and personal preferences. 

Considerations should include location, size, majors offered, campus culture, and financial aid.

Junior Year: 

Take standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. Plan to take these tests during your junior year, which allows time for retakes if necessary.

Create a college list. Narrow down your list of colleges based on your research and test scores.

Tip: Consider reaching out to current students or alumni for insight.

 Junior Year and the Summer After: 

Sign up for campus visits at your top choices, attend information sessions, and  take tours to get a feel for each college.     

Tip: Take notes that can be used in essays!

Spring of Junior Year: 

Gather Letters of Recommendation. Be the first to ask teachers, counselors, or others who know you well for letters of recommendation.

Spring of Junior Year: Begin writing your personal statement and other essays. By summer, this should be a priority.

Summer After Junior Year and Early Senior Year: 

Complete the Common Application or other applications.

Senior Year: 

Submit applications. Be aware of application deadlines. Some colleges have early decision and/or early action deadlines, while others have regular decision deadlines in the later months. 

Apply for financial aid and scholarships.

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any other required financial aid documents.

Explore and apply for scholarships to help fund your education.
